[Welp. That little minigame in the pod room was certainly. A thing. He's lucky Makima wasn't around because how else would he have participated? He's not going to blemish his shell anymore than it already is.]

[So! Promises! The thing about promises is that teaching Greek to someone that doesn't know it became one of them. And Hermes knows WHY Roland wants to learn some Greek. He's more than willing to help!

The minigame is over and Hermes can be seen in the mess hall writing down in Greek on a bunch of different papers.

As Roland approaches, Hermes looks up and spots him.]

You're here! AreYouReady?

[Hermes is in a bit of a bind. On one hand, there's stuff that he doesn't want to reveal. On the other, Alastor has been twisting his metaphorical arm until he caved in.

He's already in the casino by the time Alastor arrives, about to leave. Too bad for him, he bumps into Alastor halfway to the exit door.]

Oh... H- hi... I was just...

[Hermes cannot think of a valid excuse that would work.]

Name: Hermes v1
Canon: Fortuna
Assumed Canon Point: Right after allowing (Roman) Apollo v1 to escape from the tutorial
True Canon Point: After the player has finished Runthrough/Game #2

History:

CowBoy, the first player of the game, bought, installed, and ran Fortuna, the computer game, for the first time

CowBoy played Fortuna dozens upon of times, completing a large number of runs of Fortuna, eventually drifting into "cruelly" "experimenting" on the game and its characters within it

An earlier iteration of Hermes v1 gets permanently killed as another Hermes v1 (the Hermes I'll RP as) comes into being at the start of a fresh universe, and is taught the ropes by Mors v1. He meets Cupid v1 for the first time. When Hermes shook Cupid's hand, CowBoy reset the computer game, corrupting Cupid's save file until a new Cupid is spawned in the next universe.

Hermes makes friends with the Roman Apollo as CowBoy sets their sights onto attempting to "unlock" the dummied out pre-beta files of the game which are hidden under the code of Fortuna (Hermes wouldn't know this even without memloss). To do this, CowBoy kills the Roman Apollo in a variety of different ways and ending the universe multiple times in quick succession. Hermes eventually gets fed up with this and attempts to save Apollo, unfortunately ending up with him accidentally killing Apollo without any way to bring him back.

CowBoy decides the Roman Apollo a lost cause and turns their sights onto the Greek Apollo, putting him through the same type of abuse as the Roman Apollo. Hermes, meanwhile, becomes more and more and more numb to death that he actually begins reveling in it and becoming very interested in watching people die. After this, CowBoy discovered a new type of "run" to the game. By befriending the Greek Apollo enough and then betraying him, he eventually turns into a Sun God, therefore granting the Fortuna object "Sun God Helmet" and causing universes to end after 1000 years instead of the normal 20000.

CowBoy's friend (canon name unknown but unofficially referred to as [You]) expresses interest in the game. [You] gets the game from CowBoy, along with their save file, and start playing for the first time. They attempt to do a full clean swipe of the game minus player-generated species, planets, and legends, and accidentally save the Fortuna objects, including the Sun God Helmet, into the fresh game. This means that the Sun God also gets transferred over.

[You] starts the tutorial. Instead of Hermes being the one giving the player a tutorial, a somewhat-fresh copy of a Roman Apollo v1 gets sent into the tutorial for an extended period of time, warping the Roman Apollo's view of the world and granting extreme loneliness and desperation. Apollo kills the tutorial captain and nearly ends up getting killed himself, only for Hermes to [Space Rip] a way out for Apollo. He escapes and Mors v1 gets blamed for Hermes's actions (As Mors is the only other AI with [Space Ripper].

[You] completes the tutorial and first real game with Hermes and the crew's personal AI companion. During [You]'s second game, we find out that he used his death sight ability on himself in order to find out when he died. This was a huge mistake as Hermes very quickly drove himself into extreme paranoia. He dismissed his own problems regarding this, hiding them to himself (mostly hiding inside a closet), as he attempted to keep a close eye on all of his friends as possible, only for him to annoy them.

[You] reaches Fortuna in the second run of the game and Hermes room traps the player, trapping [You]'s v1 avatar alongside [You]'s patrons at the time, Helios and Athena. Eventually, Athena tricks Hermes into summoning Mors v1. Mors yells at Hermes, and [You], Helios, Athena, and Mors all attempt to reassure Hermes that none of them will kill him. unfortunately, all of their bad wording only drives Hermes over the edge.

Hermes attempts to kill Helios, but due to his panic, accidentally kills Mors instead. He notices blood on his claws and gets confused, as AIs aren't supposed to bleed. Mors is revealed to be every single corpse the player(s) have killed in the game, including clockworks, therefore being a giant flesh clockwork monster. Hermes panics again. [You] attempts to save their player avatar Hermes from Mors, only for Athena to kill it, effectively ending the room trap and saving Hermes.

Personality:

Hermes is a natural prankster. He likes to mess with people as he finds it very entertaining, though he tries not to go too far with his pranks. He is enemies with his Roman counterpart, Mercury, due to Mercury having no line he's unwilling to cross, so most pranks Mercury does usually end up very damaging or unfunny or even traumatizing. Hermes believes it's much better to laugh with people than at them. He likes to goof around, too, such as bothering to take a selfie while other people fight against a dangerous monster.

Though this isn't to say that Hermes can't take a single thing seriously. He can prove himself to be diligent and hardworking when given orders, even when he doesn't agree with them, such as spying on people he likes. He's usually also the very first person a human player sees, so he actually cares a lot about giving a decent first impression to people about the game. He'll attempt to fo above and beyond when explaining things to people as he's doing the tutorial.

Hermes is also very energetic. He's very entertained by action and drama. He'll imagine many scenarios where things are action-packed. However, he's also heavily against getting killed. Most of the time, he'll act all calm or goofy when there's immediate danger around, but if he knows for sure he might or will die, he'll grow overcautious at best and paranoid at worse, and will not stop thinking about the danger until he feels he's safe again. He's also a very passive person, preferring not to take initiative or even meddle in other peoples' affairs.

Despite his goofy exterior, he actually pays close attention to the personalities of people. He's very attentive even though he doesn't seem like it. He has a shipping wall and puts great thought into his ships so as to try to avoid NoTPs. Furthermore, he's the fastest v1 AI in the game, so while he's zooming around, he'll know where everything is as he passes it. Despite his attentiveness, he prefers staying in the sidelines and acting like a goof.

One thing nobody really knows about Hermes is just how low his self-esteem is. It's sort of a specific low self-esteem as he isn't really bothered by people yelling at him or calling him names (except for Mercury v1). Instead, due to CowBoy's experiments and him killing the Roman Apollo he was friends with permanently, he believes he doesn't get a say in anything. This is reinforced again when he tries to save himself from a perceived threat or trying to protect a v3 Greek Apollo. All those times he tried to do something he thought was good and truly mattered, it always ended badly for him.

Memories:

* Runthrough of Game 1
* Runthrough of Game 2
* Hades
* The name "Apollo"
* Limbo Gods

Possessions:

Clockspec Pen - A wireless pen that is connected to a briefcase sized computer. It functions as a mass spectrometer to identify samples or patient tissues as being infected with clockwork. A joint effort between Q and S-class Notails, and was marketed by the T-classes. There was a single costly brand, but this valuable tool soon was made by a variety of manufacturers. Some PSAs still circulate with warnings about the pen only detecting clockwork samples rather than what any illnesses present and requiring the pen to touch the sample to detect it.

Physiology:

Hermes is usually just coding, a modeled object, a skeleton mesh, and textures, but having been taken out of his computer game, he'll be a robot that does not need to eat or sleep. In addition, he's been infected with clockwork that usually takes weeks to show symptoms.

Clockworks are basically a hybrid of metal and flesh. Basically abominations that MOST people want dead unless the strain is a safe strain, like the ones all Zuid'tian are. They generally aren't classified as an official sentient species aside from one or two exceptions that are safe strains.

As for what strain Hermes has? I asked the official discord wiki and they said what Mors or Cobalt has. Someone said Mors is all strains of clockwork and someone else said Hermes is probably like Cobalt, but since I don't know what strain Cobalt is, I will say it is a safe, noninfectious strain, though still progressively aggressive.

And how Hermes got it is in his paranoia, Hermes tried to attack Helios to kill him before Hermes got killed. but missed and hit Mors and since he is composed of every dead body including clockworks, Hermes killing Mors is what infected Hermes, since Hermes used his claws to kill

Motives:

Hermes usually chooses to not kill over killing as he's far more interested in watching people die than causing death himself. However, there's three main exceptions to this rule. The first is when he goes on "Murder Hour" with his best friend, Thanatos. The second is when he feels too cornered by danger and will lash out to try and protect himself. The third is when he enters his Wheel Of Fire persona, where his face and claws turn red and he hosts a killer game show.

However, there may be a fourth exception to his "no killing" passivity if a certain roman Apollo was able to be revived or bought back in some way...

RP Sample: Sample 1, Sample 2
Case Sample:

Hermes isn't the most charismatic, but his charisma stat is still a 7. It should be somewhat easy for him to coax someone to where Hermes would murder them, most likely someone on the naïve side. Hermes is actually fairly strong, with a strength stat of 10, but his usual rip and tear with his claws would give him away in an instant. He's not the most clever with an intelligence of 3, but I'm fairly certain he'd be able to come up with a non-identifiable way to kill, such as using is 4'4" long neck in order to choke someone to death and then maybe try and plant false evidence to try and frame someone else.

Hermes is usually super-attentive to the little details, but in a stressful situation such as this, it's very possible he'll gloss over a tiny thing or two like a pece of fabric stuck in his neck from choking the victim. He's usually passive and rarely meddles, but if he's the murderer, there may be a little incentive for him to try and direct the investigation to the person he'd be trying to frame.

Killer or Victim Consideration:

Due to having a clockwork infection, I can see Hermes as a victim if people become aware that he's infected (though Hermes won't know he's infected, either, until he regains his memories). But as it stands now, I want Hermes to be a killer. Not only does he have more potential incentive for it, the clockwork virus can also make him progressively more aggressive.

Special Role Consideration: Please make Hermes the Executioner! It would be so much fun for me to have him to put on his "Wheel Of Fire" persona for everyone to see, but it may take a single punishment after he decides he wants to just watch the first execution.

History summed up

PERSONALITY
SUPERBIA might sometimes operate on logic beyond that of inferior organic minds, but its judgement is never wrong. WHAT MAKES SUPERBIA THINK YOUR CHARACTER IS PRIVATEER MATERIAL? (Powerful martial abilities? Sheer ambitious vision? An ability to make a mean egg salad sandwich?)

Hermes does have a number of useful abilities, such as being able to rip holes in space, his extreme speed, and (even though people think he's dumb), his observational skills. It may not look like he's paying attention, but he actually is. If he becomes a player's "patron", he'll often help out by informing where stores, on which planets, and how many. One would have to be a very keen investigator in order to figure that out. In addition, Hermes can be very good at explaining things. He's had tons of practice giving out tutorials over his existence. And while he may not know everything, he can be very good at explaining what he does know. Another thing Hermes is capable is feats of impressive strength. In his computer game, it's a quantifiable 10 out of 10, and can thus be able to lift heavy things easily.

Fortuna is always described as being capable of granting any wish, but its exact nature is unknown. DEEP DOWN, WHAT DOES YOUR CHARACTER WANT IT TO BE THE MOST? (examples: an impossibly powerful weapon, a beautiful natural wonder, a cool giant robot.)

Hermes does actually have multiple reasons to go after Fortuna, but his main more reason why he might want to get it is to get one of his friends, a first-generation Roman Apollo, back alive without any negative or unwanted traits. Hermes had permanently killed him while trying to free him from the player's cursor. There's no way to bring him back ingame, not unless the unwanted [Abomination] is gained. If there's a way to bring the earlier version of Roman!Apollo without the abomination trait, he'd do it, as he has shown very strong signs of wanting Apollo back. A different Roman!Apollo had gotten accused of killing the Greek!Apollo, and thus, thrown into the tutorial for hundreds of ingame years. The Roman!Apollo was just about to be killed, so Hermes saved them by using [Space Ripper] to allow Apollo to escape to the Underworld. Later on, during the player's furst real game, Hermes intentionally fostered a friendship with a third-generation Apollo Unit.

SUPERBIA only desires to prove the existence of the Lucky Star; its privateers are free to do whatever they want with it. IF YOUR CHARACTER GOT THE TREASURE, WHAT WOULD YOUR CHARACTER DO WITH IT? WHY DO THEY WANT TO FIND IT?

As stated before, Hermes would use it to try and get his friend back up and running the way before he was killed. Once he got it, he'd try and protect it from others. He also might actually get a little paranoid over protecting it and try to manipulate people away from it. He might also be willing to try and kill to protect it. He's seen himself getting hurt again and again trying to do good things for himself, such as accidentally killing his friend while trying to protect him and accidentally getting infected with an infectious virus that would turn him into a clockwork while trying to stop others from killing him (in his paranoid eyes), but he does realize that this might be something bogger, more worth the risk. Maybe.

Treasure-hunting is not for the weak of heart. WHAT IS YOUR CHARACTER WILLING TO RISK, AND WHAT ARE THEY WILLING TO SACRIFICE?

Hermes has had hundreds of thousands of ingame years experiencing the dangers of space travel. He's already endured hardships multiple times and lived to tell the tale. He's stood by watching people die and put himself into (minor) danger aiding other people. In the computer game Fortuna, space was depicted as an incredibly dangerous place where anyone can die, but not if you're lucky or smart about it. Furthermore, he's actually seen his fair share of combat. While not the best fighter, or even a fighter at all, he has participated in what he and Thanatos v1 call "Murder Hour". He prefers only watching people die, but Murder Hour is an exception.

POWERS AND ABILITIES
Death Sight - Hermes can see the exact time people can die, depicted as a timer directly above a person's head, counting down to 0. This ability can be switched on and off at will.

Game Inventory - Hermes can put stuff in a pocket-dimension/hammerspace, but he has to be careful not to overflow it as it will break. Currently has 12 slots.

Godhead - Hermes can grant a member of Hermes's Consort Species the ability to become a Godhead, which gives them an overall enhancement. Will only become applicable if any of these species appear: Aftik, Delphik, Kounini, Spiraji, Tourist

Observational abilities - Hermes pays very close attention to his surroundings. Kind of necessary when zipping around so fast, the person looks like a blur.

Quicksaving - Whatever Hermes touches, quicksaves the game of Fortuna. This ability cannot be turned off. Unfortunately, this ability will be useless within this setting. [Space Ripper] - He can rip holes in space, creating a technical wormhole, and repair the rips in space as if they were never even there. Ingame, he could use this to travel to and from the Underworld, but I assume the Underworld doesn't exist in this setting, so he can't travel there.

Strength and Speed - He is both very fast and very strong. He's the fastest AI in the game.
