15S R7 Week 5 Wednesday After Minigame

[Welp. That little minigame in the pod room was certainly. A thing. He's lucky Makima wasn't around because how else would he have participated? He's not going to blemish his shell anymore than it already is.]

[So! Promises! The thing about promises is that teaching Greek to someone that doesn't know it became one of them. And Hermes knows WHY Roland wants to learn some Greek. He's more than willing to help!

The minigame is over and Hermes can be seen in the mess hall writing down in Greek on a bunch of different papers.

As Roland approaches, Hermes looks up and spots him.]

[ He'd done his minimal participation to make sure that he wouldn't be punished or anything, glad to just be done with it all.

It doesn't take him long to find Hermes with bright eyes and a smile. He's been quite looking forwards to this ever since he had brought it up to him.

He sits down across from Hermes, eyes bright. ]

I am! I see you've already been busy making preparations!

[Hermes nods his head exuberantly a couple times, also in a happy mood. Looks like Roland's little pep talk did Hermes some good. He scratches his front leg a little as he begins speaking.]

Yep! A good tutorial must always be prepared!

[Hermes fishes a piece of paper from the somewhat-scattered stacks of them and places it in front of them.]

This is the Greek alphabet. 24 letters instead of the 26 English has.

[Hermes will go along teaching Roland the Greek alphabet. Because this is always where one should start when learning a new language.]

[ Honestly Roland is glad that his simple pep talk had actually genuinely helped Hermes and that he also is in a much better mood here.

Leaning over to look at the list of characters, he then nodded in understanding. ]

They also seem to have quite a unique look to the letters as well!

[ He is determined to understand things thoroughly. For several reasons. ]

Yeah, Greek isn't a latin-based alphabet like English or French or German or Spanish. In fact, Greek came BEFORE Latin!

[Hermes then goes on to begin to teach simple words like "cat" or "big" or "fast" and the like, once he's sure Roland's got a good handle on the alphebet.]

Aah... Fascinating!

[ He's going to try his best with them the best he can, stumbling a bit on the pronunciation initially. ]

Okay! So... Γ...άτα? Hmm.. μεγάλο... and... γρήγορα? Did I say those right?

Close for the first two, and the third is perfect!

[Brief Concentration...]

Γάτα... Γάτα... μεγάλο... μεγάλο!

[The words were pronounced as clearly as Hermes could muster. More brief concentration as Hermes switches back to en_US.]

Go ahead! Try again.

[ Roland's expression is rapt with concentration, listening to every syllable, then nodding. ]

Γάτα. μεγάλο!

[ Immediately he seems to perk up, believing he actually got it right this time. ]

The pronunciation is a little tricky but I think i'm starting to get it a little!

[Hermes nods.]

You got it! And yeah, the ɤ sound is very similar to some of the other sounds, so I can see why it would be tricky!

Wanna try going through some simple phrases?

[ He instantly nods, sitting upright and a grin on his face. ]

Yes, please. I'm ready, Hermes!

[ Oh he absolutely would put 150% into this! ]

[Hermes scratches at his front leg before he fetches a piece of paper of phrases from the semi-scattered stacks of paper.]

Okay! To start off with... "You are so beautiful" means...

[ While Roland does his best to pretend as if nothing's wrong? A very soft blush dusting his cheeks says it's obvious Hermes already figured out why he'd wanted to learn Greek to start with. ]

Εί... Είσαι τόσο ό-όμορφος?

[ The trick was to go slow, taking the time to work with how each word was said. It was fine. He could do this! ]

[Hermes makes a playful face upon seeing the slight blush.]

Hehehe, don't worry! I fully support the two of you and hope you two have a very successful relationship after we lose our memories! There's nothing wrong with impressing Alastor!

Here's one that should be more general purpose: "Thank you for being with me" is...

[ Roland exhaled a small laugh, his hand coming up to absently touch a spot on his chest briefly. ]

Thank you, Hermes. I'm glad to have your support, and i'm positive we'll be able to make things work even after we lose our memories.

[ He can't believe just how easy the robotic man had completely figured him out here. ]

It's... not just for impressing him, but... more that I want to be able to communicate with him in his native language, more than anything else.

[ All the same? He does take in the phrase, slowly making sense of it in his head, then nodding to himself. ]

Το... πρόσωπό σου... είναι σ-σπασί..κλα

[ He hummed a bit in thought afterwards. ]

If you have me this figured out, I suppose you'll already know what I'd like to be able to say to him and him alone.

[Hermes nods, a smile adorning his screenface.]

Of course, of course. Like I said to Anya, there is nothing more beautiful than a romantic relationship. Nothing beats one, not even any stellar object!

And I suppose the thing you most want to say to him...

..."Σ'αγαπώ"

...I'm sure you already know what it means.

[Hermes could choose to prank Roland with that phrase, but it's too important a phrase to do so.]

[ There's something kind of sweet in the way Hermes regards relationships, finding it more valuable over even legitimate objects. He also supposes that since he finds those beautiful? It makes perfect sense that Hermes would pick up on what he'd meant right away. ]

Σ'αγα..π-πώ. [ A small breath, his expression scrunched up a bit in concentration. ] Σ'αγαπώ!

[ Roland grinned widely, proud of it even though he'd briefly stumbled over the initial pronunciation. ]

I... don't suppose you'd know how I could say his name in greek, too? [ A pause. ] Not that I want that to be the extent of what I learn, though! It's truly a very interesting language.

[Hermes gives a small applause once Roland manages to pronounce the word proudly and correctly! Then, he scratches at his front leg a little.]

...Ἀλάστωρ.

...And that's fine! I'm sure he'll be super happy to talk to you in Greek! I know you may not care, buuuuuut after Greek, I can give some lessons in another language!

[ That little bout of applause made him beam even brighter if it were physically possible. Here he'd always thought greek was going to be MUCH more difficult and now he had a phrase he was going to bust out to him when it was appropriate. ]

[ He pauses, thinking about it then nodding once he'd made up his mind. While having Hermes here? There was something he'd be remiss in asking. ]

Oh? So would a small lesson in japanese be manageable, then?
